If your any car guy like me, when you turned 16 you always had this crazy fantasy that you would get your dream car for your first car. Its a little mental game that we torture ourselves with that is just for the fun of it. The same rules apply to a question like: "If you won the lottery for 10 million dollars what would you do with it." You could go on for days with the things you could do. The vacations you would go on. The extravagant things you would buy. The list goes on and on, however with car guys the question is: "If you could have any car no matter what the price what would it be?" Now to be honest I have already answered this question in one of my previous posts about the Ferrari F40, but if someone asked me if I could have any car no matter the price, my second choice would be this: a 1997 Porsche 993 Turbo. With only 612 Turbos made in 1997 and white being the rarest color this is an extremely rare and saught after car. Indeed why it is one of my favorite dream cars.
However this is no normal 993 Turbo. Our customer wanted to take his car to the next level and individualize his car even more then normal. This car came to us in a completely stock configuration but the customer was looking for more. We helped him pick something that we knew he would love as well as many other Porsche lovers. We pointed him in the direction of the Ruf converstion kit. This included front and rear bumper, side skirts, and Ruf's signature 5 spoke wheels instead of the Porsche Turbo twist wheels.
Ruf is no new comer to the Porsche world. Starting in 1938, Ruf is actually recognized as a vehicle manufacturer as opposed to a tuner. Starting in 1977 with the debut of the Porsche 930 tuned with a stroker motor, followed by a full production vehicle in 1978 with the 911 SCR. From here the company has only grown more and more. By taking Porsche chassis that are unmarked Ruf actually creates their own car with their very own Ruf VIN number and Ruf naming. The origional Porsche 993 Turbo was transformed into the Ruf Turbo R. Although many performance specifications were changed when it came out it looked like something out of a dream.

The Ruf front bumper went about adding extra cooling and aerodynamics to the vehicle. They wanted to create more downforce on the car for stability at high speeds while also adding intakes for brake cooling and air entering the engine. I don't think they did a bad job making it look good at the same time.
As you can see here we also added some OEM race seats to give the occupants a more race car like feel but still providing comfortability and usability. Also the top parts of the seat were painted white to match the car.
The rear bumper, seen here, added more cooling vents for the rear brakes to get rid of excess heat when driving spiritedly. Also with the wider rear bumper we were able to accommodate wider rear wheels and tires.
The classic Ruf 5 spoke wheels frame the beautiful Porsche vented disc brakes with the bright red calipers.
As seen in the images above we also decided to add performance lowering springs to lower the hight of the car. This not only gave the vehicle a much more aggressive stance it also lowered the center of gravity to help cornering. In the picture directly above you can see that we added a larger spacer behind the wheel to push the wheels out to meet the fenders flush and widen the track of the car also increasing handling performance.
Over all this car just makes me weak in the knees. Its just so damn good looking! Working with this car was almost a dream come true, only because I couldn't own it myself. However this only provides motivation to work hard and one day I will make my dream come true!
